Historic house of Koundouriotis
This is the historic house of Lazaros Koundouriotis, a magnificent mansion painted in the colors of Chora. It is built on an elevated spot, overlooking the port, on the west side of the bay and it operates as a museum.
Historical and Archive Museum of Hydra
On the right side of the port there is the Historical and Archive Museum of Hydra which was founded in 1918. The visitors are impressed by the special exhibits; the silver lekythos with the stuffed heart of Admiral Andreas Miaoulis. King Otto after the death of the naval hero, on June 11th 1835, ordered for it to be detached from his body and placed in this lekythos as a symbol of bravery and patriotism.
Metropolis of Hydra
The Cathedral of Panagia Faneromeni is located in the port of Hydra and it was built in 1648. The church is located inside the monastery which now houses the City Hall and the Ecclesiastical and Byzantine Museum.
Beaches
At the rocks outside the port, you will find Spilia, a rocky beach which is suitable for diving and it features deep, crystal clear waters. Some rocks have been sanded and cemented to be suitable for sunbathing. There is also a cafe-snack bar here.
Next to Spilia you will find Hydroneta, located in perhaps the most beautiful part of the island, under the cannons and on the rocks. And it is suitable for diving from the rocks into the deep waters. Sun lounges have been set up here, as well as a cafe-snack and a restaurant with amazing sea view.
Bisti is an amazing beach situated on the west side of the island and it is surrounded by high cliffs. It is an organized beach and it is suitable for water games, snorkelling and diving, right next to a pine forest.
Agios Nikolaos is an organized beach that consists of fine pebbles and crystal clear waters. It is situated at the entrance of the bay and the slopes overgrown by pine trees will definitely attract your attention. There are umbrellas and sunbeds with small tables, a canteen which offers soft drinks and snacks. A short distance from the coast there are pines, which provide a natural shade. Additionally, there is a spot with sand for small children to play with. The beach is overlooked by the white church of “Agios Nikolaos”.
Mandraki beach, in Mandraki Bay, is the only completely sandy beach on the island of Hydra and the only beach where you can find changing rooms, showers for visitors etc. Mandraki beach there is a resort which offers sunbeds, umbrellas, towels, snacks etc. Additionally it has a restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.
